Seasons/Availability

Baby Green patty pan squash is available year-round with a peak season in the summer months.

Selection

When selecting Baby Green patty pan squash, look for those that are firm, blemish-free with a bright green skin. Avoid any that have soft spots or are discolored as they may be over-ripe and lack flavor.

Storage

Store uneaten Baby Green patty pan squash in its original wrapping at room temperature for up to five days. Refrigerate cut pieces wrapped in a plastic bag for up to three days. The baby version of this squash is more delicate than mature squash varieties and should not be cooked for too long since the texture can become mushy quickly.

Usage

Before eating, rinse the Patty Pan squash under cold water then cut off the stem. It can be cooked as is, with or without its skin. Patty pan squash is versatile and can be roasted, steamed, boiled, microwaved or sautéed. Add it to omelets, pasta dishes, stir-fries or salads for a nutritious addition to any meal. The flowers are also edible and can be used in salads or as a garnish for a beautiful presentation.
