Seasons/Availability

French Breakfast radishes are available year-round.

Availability/Selection

When selecting French Breakfast radishes, look for roots that are firm with smooth skin and bright coloring. Avoid those with wilted leaves, blemishes, or soft spots on the surface.

Storage

French Breakfast radishes should be stored in a plastic bag lined with paper towels in the refrigerator crisper drawer, where they will keep fresh for up to one week. The green tops should be removed and discarded prior to storage to prevent moisture loss.

Preparation

French Breakfast radishes can be enjoyed raw or cooked. To prepare, rinse under cool running water to remove any dirt residue then pat dry with paper towel and trim off the root and stem ends. For an even milder flavor, prepare the radishes by removing the thin outer layer of skin with a vegetable peeler. French Breakfast radishes can also be cooked to enhance their flavor and texture, though they will lose some of their vibrant color. Popular cooking methods include sautéing, steaming, roasting, braising, and pickling. The greens are edible and can be used as an herb in salads or as a garnish for soups and stews.

French Breakfast radishes pair well with butter, cream cheese, olive oil, herbs such as dill and parsley, complimentary vegetables like carrots and onions, nuts such as walnuts and cashews, cheeses like feta and blue cheese, meats including bacon and duck confit, seafood such as salmon and crab, and grains like quinoa and farro. They can be added to salads, sandwiches, tacos, stir-fries, soups, egg dishes, and more. French Breakfast radishes also have a wide array of uses in beverages including juices, smoothies, cocktails and mocktails.
