Oro Blanco grapefruits are a variety of pummelo, which is the original ancestor of modern-day citrus fruits and one of the oldest known species. They were discovered growing in South Africa during the mid-1800s, but their origin is unknown. The name Oro Blanco means “white gold” in Spanish and was likely given due to the sweet flavor of these fruits.
