Seasons/Availability
Purple Ninja radishes are available in the spring, early summer months, and in the fall.
They can be found at farmers markets, specialty grocers, and some supermarkets seasonally.
Selection/Storage
When selecting Purple Ninja Radishes choose firm radishes that are free of blemishes or mold. Avoid any with soft spots as they will not store well. Store them unwashed in a plastic bag for up to 5 days in the refrigerator. The leaves should be removed before storage. If you cannot find fresh Purple Ninja Radishes, they may also be purchased pickled or preserved in other ways.
Preparing/Serving
Purple Ninjas radishes can be eaten raw or cooked. Their lightly spicy flavor lends itself to being used as an edible garnish on salads and sandwiches or added to vegetable platters. They can be sliced or diced for adding to stir-fries, soups, and stews. When cooked the radish will become slightly sweeter and more tender. Pickling Purple Ninjas is also an excellent way of preserving them which adds a wonderful flavor to salads, sandwiches, tacos, or wraps. The leaves are also edible and can be used in salads or added to sautéed dishes as a tasty green vegetable.
