Seasons/Availability
Cherry tomatoes are available year-round.
Preparation & Uses
Cherry tomatoes can be enjoyed raw or cooked. When using cherry tomatoes, always remove any stems or bad spots with a paring knife. The tomatoes can then be cut in half or quartered and tossed into salads for added sweetness and flavor. They can also be roasted or grilled and used as an accompaniment to proteins, seafood, and vegetables. Cherry tomatoes are great for sauces, salsas, pizza toppings, caprese salads, pastas, bruschetta, soups, and stews. The small size of cherry tomatoes makes them perfect for snacking on raw right off the vine!
Nutrition
Cherry tomatoes are a good source of dietary fiber as well as vitamins A, C, and K. They also contain a variety of other nutrients including iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese, and folate.
Storage
Cherry tomatoes should be stored at room temperature for up to four days. If they are kept in the refrigerator in a paper or plastic bag they can last up to eight days. To freeze cherry tomatoes, clean them off first then place them on a baking sheet in a single layer. Place the tray into the freezer until the tomatoes are frozen solid then transfer them to an airtight container or plastic freezer bag where they will stay fresh for up to 6 months.
