Seasons/Availability
Yellow cherry tomatoes are available year-round.
Selection
Choose yellow cherry tomatoes that are bright-yellow in color, free of bruises and blemishes. The skin should be smooth and taut, not wrinkled or sunken. Avoid tomatoes with green shoulders as they will be under-ripe and bitter tasting.
Storage
Store cherry tomatoes at room temperature out of direct sunlight in a single layer on a countertop or other dry surface. Do not refrigerate the tomatoes as this will cause them to become mealy and lose flavor; however, if you do need to store the fruit, store it away from ethylene producing fruits such as apples and bananas to prevent spoilage. Consume within 1–2 days after purchase for optimal flavor and texture.
Preparation
Yellow cherry tomatoes can be eaten raw or cooked, and they make a great addition to salads, sandwiches, pastas, pizzas, and more. To prepare the fruit for cooking, give it a quick rinse under cold water. Slice in half if desired before adding to recipes. When roasting yellow cherry tomatoes, preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C) and spread the halves on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and drizzle with olive oil or melted butter. Roast for 10–15 minutes until soft and golden brown in color.
